The Ageless Princess

(2-minute read)

Once upon a time in the kingdom of Mabash lived a mysterious Princess. She was known far and wide for her ageless appearance despite having lived many moons.

One day, a courtier approached her while she was singing in the courtyard. “Your Majesty, how is it that you remain so youthful? Rumour has it that you are 150 years,”

“That is inaccurate. I am 149,” laughed the Princess. “Ah simply, looks are a result of your daily thoughts over the years. What do you think about? Do you think of the drought that may destroy the crops? Do you think of the wages you receive? Or do you think of what to eat for breakfast.”

The courtier was puzzled. “What do you mean Your Majesty?”

“If you think worrisome and un-childlike thoughts everyday, there is no doubt you will look old and wizened fast. But if you think of the flower festival next month or the music to enjoy in the evenings, you will be blessed with youth.”

“But Your Majesty,” said the courtier. “I have to think of my family. I have to think of the food to provide. I cannot be thinking only fun thoughts. My family will perish.”

“You are right,” replied the Princess. “If all you do is think of fun and little else, you will look young but possess nothing. But look around me. I have treasure, land and yet I remain ageless. I have much to worry running a kingdom, but I make sure my child-like thoughts surpass my serious ones.”

The courtier thanked the Princess and decided to try. It wasn’t easy for worry and ruminating were deep habits. The courtier learned to be calm when worry came and hopeful in times of adversity. He discovered that problems always solved themselves and that doing the things within his strengths made life a wonderland. After just one year, he became more radiant and youthful.

Word spread and soon the kingdom of Mabash spread out to be a civilisation of ageless people. Economy prospered and the kingdom expanded to be one of the richest. All thanks to the Ageless Princess.
